About us

The Stonehouse is a small orchard and business which has been growing and producing quality fruit and gourmet products, since the 1970's. Located in Central Otago, five minutes from Clyde, mountains on all sides, the Central Otago basin has extremely cold winters and very hot summers.

 

Our roadside shop is open with the Summerfruit Season from December - February. You can purchase products outside these dates from us via email or phone to order. We also supply cafes, restaurants and gift shops throughout New Zealand with our wide range.


Our Products

We use fruit grown in our orchard and other locally sourced fruit to make a range of gourmet pickles, sauces, fruit chutneys, alcohol and liqueur enhanced fruit preserves, and fruit liqueur toppings. This is all sold with fresh seasonal Summerfuit, Stonefruit, and Vegetables in our roadside shop.

Spray Free; Cherries, Apricots, Peaches, Plums, Nectarines and Quince.

Pickled Walnuts have also been a main product line for The Stonehouse from the start.

Many of our products are unique, a sensational taste experience for the food lover or make a wonderful gift.

All Stonehouse products are batch produced and contain no artificial colours, sweeteners or preservatives.

 

Here are some suggestions of ways you can get the most out of our quality gourmet products:

 

PICKLED WALNUTS - Plain or Cider Vinegar & Honey

  • Garnish a Steak for that special occasion
  • Include with antipasto platters, ploughman's lunches and cheese boards
  • Slice and add to a rich beef/venison casserole with dark beer
  • Add to pizzas, salads, BBQ kebabs
  • Serve with your favourite cheese and crackers

SWEET & SOUR CHERRIES - Pickled Cherries

  • Use with or instead of pickled onions on cheese boards and lunch platters
  • A tasty garnish for poultry and game dishes
  • Match with a Central Otago Pinot Noir

GREEN WALNUT PICKLE SAUCE

  • Brush on any BBQ red meat, duck and chicken
  • Add to curries and casseroles for a flavour lift
  • For a delicious dip, mix with cream cheese or sour cream with chopped spring onions
  • Use in a vinaigrette, with olive oil, lime juice and Dijon mustard

QUINCE PICKLE SAUCE

  • On toasted focaccia¬†with haloumi or feta cheese and salad greens
  • Delicious addition to pork dishes

QUINCE PASTE

  • Great added to any cheese board
  • Use as a glazing over Ham, Roast chicken or a Lamb Shoulder

SPICED BLACKBERRY PICKLE

  • Ready to eat, can be served with hot or cold meat
  • Use on a cheese platter, great with all cheeses

ROASTED PEACH, PLUM & ROSEMARY CHUTNEY

  • Great as a condiment with cold meats adds flavour to sandwiches with red or white meat
  • Added to cheese boards

APRICOT PICKLE SAUCE

  • Great drizzled over hot or cold chicken, can be used in stir fry's to enhance the flavour of your meal

KIRSCHED CHERRIES

  • Make an impressive Black Forest Gateaux using chocolate sponge, sweetened cream or mascarpone and Stonehouse Kirsched Cherries
  • Decorate a fruit flan with drained Kirsched Cherries and glaze with jelly made from the cherry syrup

FRUIT LIQUEUR TOPPINGS - APRICOT & RASPBERRY

  • Perfect drizzled over ice-cream or yoghurt
  • Drizzle chocolate over crepes filled with fruit liqueur topping and whipped cream.

BRANDIED APRICOTS

  • Ready to use, to make delicious winter warming desserts such as apricot sponge or Thyme Honey and apricot up side- down cake
  • Chop or mash and mix with thick custard or mascarpone for a quick pancake filling
